Over the last few years, Bristol has seen a large population increase, which has encouraged the city council to improve its education facilities. They have gradually been working on refurbishing existing schools in the area, as well as building brand new facilities, and have been working with the same main contractor, Skanska, on every project. Skanska have given us the opportunity to supply our washroom cubicles and vanities to a large number of the schools in the group, and we recently visited May Park Primary and Ashton Gate Primary to view the installations.

TBS Amwell have a great understanding in how important school washrooms are to children and staff, all the way from nursery age, up to their last years in school. Knowing that children's washrooms have a large impact on everyday school life, we wanted to deliver a long-lasting, robust system that is also welcoming and child friendly.

Moving on with the times

Skanska specified our 13mm solid grade laminate Splash system across the board. Our Splash system delivers exactly what the schools need, a reliable system that can handle any rough and tumble proving its ability to stand the test of time. Our full height option with overpanels was chosen on many areas providing extra privacy where needed. Full height provides the opportunity to have unisex toilets for students, meaning extra facilities in the Bristol schools.

Our solid grade laminate was also specified on the vanity units showing its ability to work hard in all areas of the washrooms.

May Park Primary School

Located in Eastville, May Park Primary have now gone from a two-form entry school to a outstanding four-form entry school, educating 870 pupils from Nursery class to Year 6.

When it came down to colours for their full refurbishment, they wanted a warm, fresh, current new look. With this in mind, they decided to go with our Plum and Linen colours. May Park specified a mixture of full height and standard height Splash cubicles. The colours for the toilets were also chosen for the SGL vanities, giving the school a consistent appearance throughout.

Ashton Gate Primary School

Ashton Gate Primary is a brand new school, located in Southville, Bristol. Previously old industrial offices, it is the first example of an office-to-school transformation in Bristol. The office was originally built in 1915, and is now proudly educating 420 pupils. Our cubicles are very much like the building itself, they can stand the test of time and accommodate any request.

Ashton Gate Primary decided to go with a number of different colours across the school, adapting to specific areas. The boys toilets were in our Petrol and Charcoal, while the girls had our Thistle and Charcoal. The mixed gender toilet cubicles were chosen in Spring and Eden, our bright blues and greens, and with each area the vanity colours were made to match.

George Taylor, Skanska Construction Director, had the following to say about TBS Amwell:

“They have been a key supplier to Skanska’s Bristol schools programme for a number of years now. Their product quality has been of a consistently high standard and we have always received excellent customer service from them. We hope our relationship will continue for many years to come.”

As always a preferred installer is key to a great project and on this occasion we had the pleasure of working closely with Shire Integrated Systems Ltd.
